Potential Abductor Arrested After Girl Snaps Picture of Suspect

This is a good one.... The 11-year-old girl told police a man approached her at the park and asked her to get in his car, MyFOXColorado.com reported. She said no, snapped a picture of the man with her cell phone and ran away from him, according to the TV station. Good thinking, those phones are for more than just texting!

Man tries to lure girl into van with puppy in N.J.

A man in a black minivan tried to lure an 8-year-old girl into his vehicle over the weekend by telling her he had a puppy in the back, police said..... The girl ran home and told her father what had happened. She said the man, who was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans, left the scene toward Oxford Road. See full article This little girl did the right thing. Ran away, told her Dad and was able to describe the man in pretty good detail. Pretty good for 8 years old. Good job Mom & Dad for teaching her these things before something bad could have happened!

Delaware Sex Offender Notices

Yesterday we received an interesting phone call. It was the Delaware State Police notifying us that a sex offender had moved in down the street. He is high risk and is listed on the registry. http://sexoffender.dsp.delaware.gov/sor_search.htm I went to the above website and noticed there was a link where you could sign up for email notices as well. Simply follow this link and register for a free account. https://diss.state.de.us/DWS/public.diss Then go to "Subscribe/Unsubscribe Subscriptions" Choose the "Public Health and Safety". At that point you can choose the area for which you would like to get notices. This service is great since you will get a notice as soon as it is posted on the sex offender registry. 2 girls escape abduction attempts

Click above for DelawareOnline article

Safety Tips:

  1. Tell children never go near a stranger, always stay 10 -15 'steps' away. This will allow them to get a head start if someone does try to grab them.
  2. If your child is grabbed, tell them to yell "This is not my Mom / Dad" while kicking and flailing their arms.
  3. If your child is carrying any objects such as books or bags, tell them not to worry about holding on to them. As a matter of fact they can use them to draw attention by throwing them up in the air so people will see.
  4. Tell your child never to never go anywhere alone with anyone. They should always ask permisson from a parent or teacher.
  5. If they are approached by someone, to try and remember what they looked like and what they were wearing. If they were in a car, to try to look at the license plate. But most of all to get away and tell a parent or teacher what happened.
